What to Expect
Each action packed day is targeted to start the morning photographing nesting birds followed by a midday break and then an afternoon for action shots of the birds flying and hunting nearby. For the afternoon we visit several locations to have a variety of different habitats as backgrounds in our photos. Over the course of the weekend we will see a large variety of birds from Great Blue and Little Blue herons, Great and Snowy egrets, Glossy and White ibis and even a few Yellow-crowned and Black-crowned night herons. In the afternoons we can also see Osprey, smaller shorebirds and sometimes even plovers.
Daily Schedule:
Morning Session / 5am - 10am
We will start our morning by photographing at an active rookery. A rookery is a site where a colony of birds gather in large numbers to nest together! This helps them feel safe from predators, but for photographers it is a gold mine. This rookery has a variety of bird species for us to photograph from herons to egrets and ibis.
Lunch Break / 10am - 3pm
With such long days we take an ample break to avoid the harsh midday sun and give you time to get lunch, charge your batteries and refresh for the next session. (Please note the afternoon session timing and if needed bring a snack with you as we photograph late into the evening.)
Afternoon Session / 3pm - 8pm
We will alternate between a few nearby locations in the afternoon, driving and walking to marsh and beach habitat to observe birds as they are feeding and hunting. We will focus on action shots and proper technique to capture images of birds in flight.
